How does Profhilo work?
Ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is precisely injected into the area of the patient being treated. Unlike wrinkle reducing and dermal filler treatments, Profhilo® stimulates collagen and elastin, attracting water in the deeper layers of the skin.
As a stabilised product, the activity on dermal cells will last longer than that of a non-stabilised gel. During this time the stimulation of four different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of hyaluronic acid.
The stimulation results in significant tissue improvement. Therefore we cannot say that Profhilo® is a skin booster as it also has a significant tightening / lifting effect on the tissue. We’re proud to offer Profhilo treatment at Liz Wood Aesthetics Bolton.
What does the procedure involve?
Profhilo is an injectable product and a specific injection protocol is followed involving injections of the product into specifically marked out bio aesthetic points. For example the Profhilo face protocol is five injections each side of the face. The bio aesthetic injection points have been designed with the underlying facial vascular structure in mind so with safety as a consideration.
When you arrive for your appointment, the risks and side effects of the treatment will be discussed and a consent form completed. A numbing anaesthetic cream will be applied for around 20 minutes to help make the procedure more comfortable.
The skin will then be cleansed using an antibacterial solution to ensure effective infection control. The skin is then injected with the Profhilo. Post procedure balm and a very gentle massage will then complete the procedure.
What are the risks and side effects?
As with all injectables Profhilo has some risks and side effects, that said it is a fairly safe treatment. Side effects include bleeding, bruising and immediately post procedure there will be some bumps and redness in the skin where the product has been injected. These usually subside within a couple of hours although they could take 24 hours or so in some cases to settle down.
Bruising and swelling if this occurs, is a side effect that could take longer to subside maybe up to two weeks. Please consider this if planning this treatment before an occasion or a holiday. Allow at least a month prior to allow the treatment to settle and for the effects to be evident. Profhilo isn’t an immediate result, it works gradually with results ongoing and improvement seen after 3 to 4 weeks.
